Dress Code

Tops 

  • Any H.L. Johnson Elementary official spirit t-shirt. 
  • Solid color, collared, polo-style shirt or button-down.
  • No emblems or logos except for H.L Johnson Elementary’s official logos and designs on the shirt. 
  • All shirts must be appropriately sized. 
  • Only H.L. Johnson Elementary logos and designs are permitted. 

Bottoms  

  • Solid color, docker-style shorts, pants, skorts, capris, and dresses. 
  • All must be at least fingertip length. 
  • Solid color jumpers with solid leggings or shorts underneath. 
  • Solid denim is permitted daily, but no cut-offs, rips, or tears. 
  • No athletic-type shorts, pants, leggings, or sweatpants. 
  • All pants and shorts must be worn at the waist and appropriately sized. 

Shoes  

  • Must be closed-toe, closed-heel, and rubber-soled. 
  • No wheels/Heelys, Crocs, or heels.
  • All shoes must be appropriately sized. 
  • Socks must be worn. 

Jackets and Accessories  

  • Solid-colored jackets, solid-colored sweatshirts, and sweatshirts with official H.L. Johnson Elementary logos and designs may be worn, but they must be appropriate for school. 
  • No hoods, hats, costume headbands, or other head coverings** will be worn inside the building. 
  • Dress code must be worn underneath sweaters and jackets. 
  • Only H.L. Johnson Elementary School logos are permitted. 

Exceptions may be made for special class or grade programs, trips, or special school-wide days (teachers or schools will give prior notice). 

*According to school board policy 5.182, students are not allowed to wear or possess items that create a classroom distraction or school disorder. 

**Schools must establish an exception to the dress code for sincerely held religious beliefs or a documented disability.  

***The principal or designee shall have final authority to decide if a student’s attire complies with a dress code and shall use reasonable discretion in interpreting and implementing the provisions of this policy.
